Twin scroll separates pulses for better turbine efficiency, thus the reason it spools quicker and has better work conversion once at shaft speed. The BW solution is clever because it is the best of all worlds. On a divided manifold, it is bypassing the flow scroll and dumping into spool volute. Once it opens, it is dumping half the pulses(hopefully divided properly on the manifold) and putting them into their respective TS volutes as normal. There is no downside to the system outside of ~5lbs worth of added weight according to my calibrated arm scales at Sema.

The technology works very well in QSV cars we have done in the past, and this is an even better version. They work best with big A/R's so you don't get past the surge line with a halved A/R, and get the corrected turbine flow of a larger A/R. You basically could see a 7163 bump into the 600whp range on a 1.06 or larger A/R with the spool of the rediculous .80AR/s we have seen already. That would cake plus eat IMO. Hope the technology see's bigger turbos in the future.

If it has the BW stamp on it, it is likely not going to be released unless it is bulletproof and tested.

Any idea how soon this will be releases to the public and what models this will come on?

Also, (and I know there are many variables) but all things being equal how much will this increase boost (200RPM - 500+RPM)

This will be a 2016 release at the earliest. It sounded like it will be used across the efr range from what they were saying at PRI. Very cool guys btw.

Aluminum bearing housings will be used across the efr range as well, and they'll probably be released mid 2015.

Aluminum center housings are starting to ship. We got a 7163 two weeks ago with the alu housing, T4 twin scroll. The weight difference is nice.

So for this to work properly you'd still need a twinscroll manifold or would a traditional single scroll mani work?

Gt30 currently with .63 SS housing(unhappy with sluggish off idle performance) was told going to a 1.06 would net better transient response. Now with this new BW flapper design will that hurt transient response because theres no way it could be better than a .63 right? Unless it's smaller of course....

I'm sorry, I meant for the B2 frame. You are correct, the B1 frames already have the aluminum housing, the v-band 6758 I installed the other day was ridiculously light.

Technically you could use the variable A/R housings on an open manifold, you just won't have the advantages of twin-scroll once it opens.

A 7163 will blow away a plain GT30 in response regardless of exhaust housing configuration. It is a superior turbo in basically every aspect.

Good.

That means I have all of 2015 to convince myself that I don't really need to buy one.

The 7163 with integrated QSV would be an awesome turbo setup.

I want an 8374 with the QSV and mixed flow turbine. Could be the ultimate 2L street turbo if it all works as it does on the 7163.
