New BW EFR Turbo Thread
#3587
Yes, we and some other engine builders do use EFRs in rallycross (WorldRX). We all are using the 7670 modified with a Tial v-band exhaust housing, done by GIK Turbo. So far we nerver had one fall where you can blame the turbo..
Is anyone running EFRs in motorsports? even just HPDE? I don't mean factory backed/sponsored where you never hear how many turbos they go through, but independent guys who work them for 30mins at a time, and will care if it doesn't hold up.
I'm guessing wishful thinking, since it sounds like just dyno numbers are hard to get. but aluminum bearing cases, etc. etc. sound like trouble for real track abuse.

Watching the manifold pressure display (behind the steering wheel) the boost response looks very good. Sounds pretty user-friendly at speed on the track. Wish I could see his rpm at the same time though. And that's the 80mm turbine wheel? Pretty nice. Thanks for posting!
Let's see, if I am reading his speed display right, he accelerates from 150 kph to 250 kph (93 mph to 155 mph) in about 5.7 seconds. That's just after 0:19 in the video. Man I love modern technology! NOS though, too bad.

If you think your butt can differentiate between 50ft/lb and 100rpm, god damn, kudos to you. For us peasants that cannot, my "claim" might not have been right on the money, but that torque band and the way boost comes in is what we're looking for.
I hope you got your internet kicks in for the day, have a pleasant day. Jackass.

This Tilton Interior's Evo uses a 9180 with 40psi and NOS.
It blitzed last years fastest lap.

Back in 2013 when motoiq made an article about them, they were using an SX366 which was "9180 sized". Since 2013 I can't find turbo specs, and there's an EFR sticker on their car. I haven't had much time to actually search for it.

WPC did have very good customer service though and Izumi is a very nice guy.

2.2 LR with EFR 7670, 2.2 bar on Shell V-Power (98-100 RON ~ 93-94 AKI)
He will now try Owen Developments Xona Rotor turbo...
Here is the build:

2.1 bar at 8350 rpm. its not falling away and turbo speed stills safe
it would take more boost but injectors maxed...
The turbo didnt meet the rpm we wanted (9000) plus the amount of a air a 4g64 flows it wasnt the correct choice. like grant said maybe the bigger EFR would of been the way to go
EFR7670 very good turbo
It didn't want to make power above 7400
I'm on 2.27 stroker
My goal is 9000 rpm
The efr 7670 can't achieve this
Looks like the 7670 due to exhaust size is more suited to a 2.0l
I don't think anyone will be disappointed with an efr turbo I'm just pushing that little bit further than most do

I think for 2014/2015 they kicked up to an EFR 8374, I can't find proof of it.

Although I would forbid using nitro in World Time Attack...

Tilton used a 9180 with 1.05 housing last year. They went to the 1.45 'Race' housing this year, obviously use T4 EWG configuration. Nitrous was used without issue, just a squirt down the front straight. Theres a theoretical 1.22 in the car which is pretty damn impressive, faster than most open wheelers around SMSP
EFR's are all the rage at WTAC, every Evo in attendance would have been running a 8374 or larger

I agree, but looking at Tilton car and components, I would say money is no object

They say EFR 9180

How about you just don't post false information. As soon as you make a claim with a number in it, be prepared to support/defend it (or at least provide a link). If there was indeed an EFR turbo capable of reliably making 600wtg at 3800rpm on a 4g63, I would like to buy one.
