03 Evo loss of power on Hwy

Car: 03 Evo 8
Mods: HKS Exhaust, HKS BOV, Perrin Intake

To beging this, the oil light on the car always came on at idle. As soon as the RPMS hit around 1k, the oil light came on. Went off as soon as the car was driving.

So this happened about 2 nights ago. I was driving back home on the highway, and downshifted into 4th and got up to around 110mphs and droped it back down to around 70mphs.
A few miles later, I noticed the car was having some struggle getting up hills, and bridges. I could hear the turbo spool, but had no power.
I got off the highway, and the car wanted to shut off. Was vibrating, and had no power. Made it home, and shut it off.

I posted this on my local forum, and was told my bearings went out. The oil light was a sign of low oil pressure. They told me to cut the oil filter, and look for bearing material.

Before I drain the oil, etc. I wanted to see what you guys had to say about this.

Thanks guys!

Do you have enough oil in there ? That will definitely cause a drop in oil pressure.

Where in DFW are you? I'd like to help if I can.

Good luck, I hope it's less severe than it sounds.

Just did a compression test, and its
175-170-180-190

Didn't find an oil filter cutter, so I just got an oil pan gasket, and gonna drop the pan tomorrow.

Anything else I can check without needing jack stands?

The car did idle right at 1k-900 rpms tonight when I got the coolant warm for test.
No oil light. But I do remember seeing it at around 700-800 rpms.

Agree with ^^^^. Check all your clamps and couplers. It happens more often than people care to share. Happens to everyone now and again....GL man, hope you figure it out

Thanks guys.

But is there an explanation to why the oil light came on? And it was all the time. I'll take the car out today and see how she feels.

Mine has flickered on/off if idle drops down too low.

Is your BOV VTA? I would say check all your pipes as well and do a boost leak test, sounds like more of the culprit. Oil light will pop on if the idle is sloppy and if you are running a VTA BOV instead of a recirc type then this might be why your idle is sloppy and thus the oil light issue even though the oil level is fine.

This. I'm uploading a video now.

But the light comes on around 900-1k RPM. Goes off above that.

I'll be honest, but im not sure.
It has a thin line going into the intake mani, and a bigger one going into the turbo intake.

I will jack up the car and check pipes, but most from the engine bay look good.

Until you pressurize the system, you won't know for sure. I had a major cut in my LICP and didn't know it till I did a boost leak test. You could hear that coupler hissing big time.

I think you may be trying to put two problems into one. It sounds like a big boost leak could be causing your poor running condition. My oil light used to flash on at very low rpm never seemed to cause any problems but maybe u should get a gauge insted of light so u know what its at.

Whats the proper way to test a boost leak?

The oil light was the first problem. The loss of power happened days later.
