Damaged/Chipped Cam

Damaged/Chipped Cam

Hey guys, i recently purchased some hks 272 cams for my evo 8, wich arrived damaged





Is the cam still Safely usable or is it now garbage and need to look into claiming insurance?

Please advise.

Atleast the nick is off to the side. If there is any burrs on the lobe polish it out and you should be good to go. The only thing that would concern me is did the blow that nicked the cam actually bend it?

The shiny wear mark is where the roller on the rocker rides-- while I wouldn't be the happiest with this arriving the way it did, it shouldn't cause a problem.

The 2 cams were packaged together, not individually as they should of been

I wouldn't put that in my engine. I don't care how minor the damage. This is something you want absolutely perfect as any failures can be catastrophic. See if you can exchange it for another just to be sure everything is perfect.

as it seems it should not cause a problem BUT it will throw off the balancing of the cam.
