Well, I would agree with you ... that's why I don't buy cheap off the shelf so called "octane boosters" from the car parts stores either ...

This stuff : http://www.need4speedpower.com/torco.html is not an "Octane Booster"

It is a "Race Fuel Concentrate" ... made by a fairly well known Race Fuel Supplier ....

I run the unleaded or leaded in my brand new STi every day ... the car runs great ..... I have a turbo back, intake and MBC set a 16 psi ..... factory ecu .... (also factory tuned to run on 93 minimum)

I now have 8,500 miles on the car ... no fouled 02 Sensors, no fouled spark plugs ....

I mix a full 32oz can to 15 gallons of gas all winter .. then a 32 oz can to 10 gallons during the summer.

I also use the GTA they carry, also known to be a great additive ...

http://www.need4speedpower.com/gtafuel.html

I mix 2 oz of that to every full tank of gas ... all year round ....

Guys, what about using an alcohol injection setup to help raise octane and take care of the detonation/knock problem? http://www.wrxhackers.com/alchystuff/page1.html You could build your own DIY kit or check out SMC enterprises... http://www.smcenterprises.com/

Or is this not a viable solution for the Evo?

Thats what I was thinkin too. On an evo with stock turbo, and basic bolt ons, wouldnt some times of AI or even just Water Injection be fine to run safer?

I am looking into AI kits as well. From what I have read they do not increase the Octane, they just allow you to run higher boost. The question I have is that if you set your car up to run at 23psi (for example) would that not give you more power and allow your car to run as if it had the better octane fuel in it? So even though it does not difectly change the octane level it does increase power by giving you the abiity to run higher boost. Is that not correct???

AI seems like too much of a crutch. One more thing to crap out on you when you don't want it to. Besides, when's the last time you went to a gas station and they filled up your alcohol tank? (No I don't mean the drive-through liquor stores and cocktail-in-a-paper cup places in Texas).
