Which one? Walbro 255 HP, DW300, Aeromotive 340 Fuel Pump

Which one? Walbro 255 HP, DW300, Aeromotive 340 Fuel Pump

I've been reading and when I think I find the best option for me, then I read some more and it's no longer the best.

I'm going to convert over to e85 in a week. Stock turbo with FIC 1100 Hz, etc (sig below). My goal (at the moment) is no more than 450whp. I plan on making 350whp when I convert and later add cams, licp, fmic, turbo, etc. to get to the 450whp goal.

So from what I gather, the modded Walbro 255 Buschur Racing outflows the DW300 and the Aeromotive 340. My questions are:
1) Is the Buschur version a modded Walbro 255 or modded Walbro 255 High Pressure?
2) Would the DW300 and/or the Aeromotive 340 outflow the modded Walbro if the mod was done to those as well?
3) What is the relief valve for and what are the dangers to modding it?

Are you currently running the stock pump? With the stock VIII turbo and on E85 you could probably get away with a single, punched and hotwired(8-gauge) WALLY. Then you could add a Kenne-Bell Boost-A-Pump as insurance. the stock 560 njectors will need to be upgraded though.

Yes, stock pump. I have some FIC 1100's on the way. The Kenne-Bell Boost-A-Pump looks pretty cool. Thanks!

a walbro 255 hp is sufficient for a stock turbo on E85. I am not even close to maxing mine out with FIC 1050's.

If you were to do a search for punching out the stock WALBRO pump, you would find the description of how to punch it out to increase fuel delivery. I think that you just need a bench vise, a punch and a hammer. The hotwiring increases voltage to the pump by replacing the dinky factory gauge wire with 8-gauge wiring. And the Kenne-Bell boost-a-pump is neat as well. the end result is that you increase fuel volume from a single Wally to the point where it should feed those hungry 1100's on E-85.

One thing you might consider is the Walbros are not E85 compatible, and not that modding one would change the warranty claim...but when the pump goes because you have changed it from the way Walbro releases it and you are running more power to it, you are out a fuel pump.

Our pump is E85 compatible and is warrantied for 3-years. Our pump with install kit is a plug and play affair, no changing polarity on the wires or trimming of the fuel pump assembly required.

^ how are they not compatible? I call bs! I made really good power on the Buschur double pumper and that was plug and play. Your is definatley not plug and play. Looks like from reading post NASA should be put back on line for the install process. Your rate of produced pumps to failure rate is definately higher than total walboros produced to there failure rate. Only time will tell if the pumps work out. Walboro is proven in any car. Now it's your turn. Op Wally ftw!

It is my understanding that Walbro 255 and 255HP are recommended for gasoline fuels only and have not been approved or warrantied for E85 use.

The DW301 is E85 compatible, it is recommended for E85 use and the 3-year warranty covers the pump for use in E85.

Walburrito's work just fine with e85 from what I've seen on just about every evo and subaru out there.

Anyway, so far there isnt any testing that shows a modified walbro works just as good as the DW300, only claims.

This is the first I've ever heard of this and I'm really curious to see what your proof is. I would venture to guess that the vast majority of people running E-85 are using Walbros, and I have yet to see a single thread about one failing because it was being used with E-85.

From doing some research, I think the DW pump has a place in the market between a single Walbro and a Double Pumper setup. Both Walbro and DW unmodded, the DW will outflow a Walbro. Both modded, the DW still wins.

This is like saying a 30r is bigger than a 35r when you're running 2 different boost pressures. What do you expect?

A single DW will not beat a double pumper. As far as compatibility with E85, I don't see you having an issue with either pump.

If the Walbro fails it is $75 to send it in to get it warranted anyway, who is going to do that when a new one is $10 more? I used E85 on my single wally for over a year on FP red never had a problem...

I drifted over here from the supraforums and was shocked at all the Walbro users. We have a very high failure rate and most use the durable OEM denso pumps. I will be going this route when needed but was curious if others have used them on their own setups...

i had a walbro - switched to dw300 cuz of the walbro's whine - haven't driven the car around yet though
