Will i need a retune???

Okay so I'm plannin on putting in HKS 264/272 cams tomorrow but I want to know how my car will be running until I get a tune. Im pretty new to the whole tuning of cars. Will my evo still run fine before I get the time and money to get it tuned?

Its a 2003 evo 8. If you need any other info let me know! Thanks a lot

You would want a retune as fast as possible. If you have to drive just stay out of boost and drive it easy.

So just by putting cams in it will make that big of an impact on the way I can drive? Anything I can do to make it okay to drive for a while?

+1. U wont see much gains either until u get it tuned. I would just wait until u can get it tuned after having the cams put in in the same day or very soon after.

When installing cams you will want to tune it immediately. No gains will be found and drivability and idle could be affected. I would stay out of boost.

If you cannot afford a tune yet, then just wait to install them until you can do it all together.

You can put them in, however just stay out of boost period! If you know you have no self control then wait to put them in...

Yea it sounds like he wants to put them in and then save up enough for a tune. However, what if something else goes wrong (knock on wood) and you have to spend the money fixing something...then you have a choppy running car needing repairs and a tune. It is tough to wait, but do it all at the same time.

dude you will be fine, those cams arent that aggressive over the stockers, u have an 11psi wastegaste spring on your turbo, keep boosting under 11 psi and youll be under wastegate control. As for driveability it might be affected a little, but then again it might not. if your gonna swap your cams anyway make sure your timing marks line up when reinstalling...if not then that could be to blame for how your car might drive after.
good luck

well to be honest with you i run hks 272 i&e cams, those 264/272 combo is an improvement over stock, but dont expect more then about 40ish hp, if you can swap them for the 280s combo better midrange and topend, but the 280s are valvetrain safe still.

I got a really good deal on these cams. $250 for the set with a set of new ARP head studs. I had to take it haha. If i could get ahold of some bigger cams that would be great if they were cheap ya know? Ive heard that you would need an upgraded valvetrain for those cams
