Then it really isn't upside down, is it?

I know the Toms filter for the IS300 is the same way. The lettering is on the side facing the MAF. Damn japanese.

the red aluminum faces up... and it's still a really tight fit...

it took me a few minutes to figure it out as well...

is the ralliart filter washable so you can reuse it? You don't put oil in it like the K&N right?

Which ever way you put in... the metal gauze is under the foam.. else the intake will suck the foam into a cone...

its good up to 200,000km or so they say... dry type filter... 3 layers of foam of different densities... maintenance is take it out every 3 months.. clean out using air gun from course side to fine.. and drop back in... i guess its usable until the foam breaks down..
