Newbie - 320WHP on 91octane?

Hello EVO owners,

I am in the market for an EVO but need to know a few things before I take the plunge...

Is it possible to get around 320WHP on 91oct pump gas with these cars? My goal is 10:1 power to weight. I know the 4G63 is a beast of a motor, but I also know they love octane and I only have the 91-**** available where I live.

If the ~320WHP goal is achievable, what mods do I need to get there?

Thanks for your help

Wow, what a car, is it really that easy? So I just need a good downpipe, cat-back, HKS cams and engine management?

I know of the Xede and Dynoflash(?) upgrades, are there others?

To confirm, I will be able to see these results on 91 octane?

How good is the stock intercooler? Is it good enough for road course track use?

Thanks again!

It is that easy. If I had cams, I would make close to 330 whp (even on 91). Stock IC is fine for what you want. You might want to upgrade your IC piping, too (the stock tubes swell badly). Good luck!

If it really is this easy I am damn excited! I will have a fast car!

Who makes a good I/C pipe upgrade?

To clarify, I am coming from RWD cars, so the "WHP" figures I am thinking about is from a Dynojet 248C. I guess the Dynapack #s are different and on the Vishni site the most WHP they list is ~253WHP. I want want would equal to around 320WHP on a Dynojet. Are we all on the same page here?

Thanks

I have the RMR hardpipe kit (as well as intake, DP and exhaust). There are other vendors out there, but you might have to relocate or use a smaller battery. The RMR keeps the stock battery and location.

i think 320 whp is a little harder to achieve than people are saying.

320 bhp should be easy to attain with a safc and some other mods.

320 whp is a very reasonable, readily attainable number. It is when people start talking about 450+ that some serious considerations come into play that most average Evo guys aren't ready for (especially financially).

I agree no problem with reaching that # on 91 octane.

Cams help a lot, So far I did turbo back, cams 264/272, and xede. I have the cam gears but need to wait on the setting and I know I am over 330 WHP for about 3,000ish. Next is injectors, fuel pump, xflash. then IC, RAD, Turbo and the rest as soon as Vishnu get's it all done. All this is less then 10k and for the power and the quality it's worth it. REMEMBER this the computer is the MOST important part, it runs the show.

I got approx 246WHP, 314hp (flywheel) with the mods below (basically exhaust systems + intake + safc2) on 97ron fuel. 320WHP is a bit too optimistic for basic stage0 or 1 mods (non turbo upgrades) especially when dynoed on Dyno Dynamics Dynamometer which is what we use exclusively down here.

I'm not trying to put down any other dynos but the Dyno Dynamics is considered to be the king of dynos. Vishnu tuning (shiv) uses one.

Don't be fooled by high whp numbers because you will see BIG difference between dynos. You'd probably need more than cams to reach 320WHP on the Dyno Dynamics dyno (probably a slightly bigger turbos). I'm on 97ron and yet I am seeing lower numbers than those who have posted here with basic mods similar to mine with 91 or 93ron. It has to be the dynos.

G'Luck !

I am not going to re-ignite the dyno controversy, but if this guy has a baseline of 230 whp on Brand X's dyno, then hits 320 whp on the same dyno later, that is a measurable gain. I think that's all the guy is looking for. 320 whp is not hard to hit. With a turbo-back exhaust, some type of fuel management (flash, piggyback, afc), new cams, fuel pump and injectors, and maybe bigger IC, 320 would be cake.
