if i was limited to a 10w40 id just buy supplies of Amsoil SAE 10W-40 Synthetic Premium Protection Motor Oil Product Code: AMOQT-EA

I run brad penn 20w50 though personally (built engine).
Its on the list I know. What I was trying to say is thats all I could find in my town that I didn't have to order.

yes i know that.. I was just giving more info regarding oils.. and if you want to know why the fp black and red are so sensitive to oil its because theres a steel on steel thrust bearing design. the red and black are built to withstand 35psi+

Im sure it will be ok with VR1, but im not running that oil ever again after seeing the inconsistent blackstone reports from it. Brad penn is the best oil for the price hands down.

Its not going to kill you running 20-50 on a stock block.

-Will it kill your motor likley not right away.
-Will you lose some power. Most definately.
-Will it cause greater engine wear on cold starts. Most definately.
-Is the stock bottom tighter tolerances right for a 20-50. Nope

Exactly. your weight of oil greatly depends on your clearances of your engine. If yours is stock, its pretty tight clearances. How many miles are on it?

5w-40 Amsoil is what I run and love it. You dont need 20w-50 with a stock clearanced motor.

EXACTLY. I don't care what FP says. The weight of oil the engineers at Mitsubishi recommend has very little to do with what turbo you run. It has a LOT to do with your bearing tolerances in your engine. Your call though, I made 500whp in my Talon for over 2 years beating the crap out of it and never had an issue with 10w30 synthetic (whichever brand was on sale at the time). In fact, it's still running perfectly with the new owner. Everyone has their preference when it comes to oil though. I think people get overly crazy. Just change it every 3-4k even with synthetic, and you will more than likely never have an issue due to oil viscosity.

Good luck, I plan on purchasing a Red or Black soon, haven't decided which.

Here's our oiling requirements in a nutshell and these only apply if you're running a Red or Black JB turbocharger.

- Use the thickest viscosity oil your climate will allow.
- Avoid any GF-4/5 compliant oils as they are emissions based.
- Choose an oil that has a higher zinc and phosphorus content.

If you have one of our BB units the turbo nor us care what oil you use as long as there's a clean steady supply to the turbo.

I bought into a recommendation once to run 20-50 before hitting the track once. The oil was so thick i could hear the bearings lifters and everything else clicking and rattling since the oil couldnt get into the clearances. I have alway ran a factory weight oil. And i can say with absolute certainty that if your motor is "built" by a reputable shop your clearances aren't any bigger then what they are stock unless you asked for it. Other then piston/wall. Best of luck running heavy oils. I'll run lighter oil change it a lil more often and not need new bearing every other month.
