FP Red (84mm) users get in here plz...

Curious to know why some users have no issuses with surge and others need to run external wastegate ? what is the secret recipe for this turbo ?

external wastegates do not cure surge.
i'm assuming you mean recipe, not receipt.

i went from a stock comp housing red which surged horribly to the 84mm cover. Zero surge issues since.

yup like that.
do you know how to read compressor maps?
higher boost pressures at lower rpms has a higher chance for surge.
anti-surge compressor housing greatly reduces or eliminates surge by moving extending the left hand side of the compressor map

i'm not sure if thats surge.
it does sound like it though.
you shouldn't get it when you change into the next gear, like you did in your video (where it still sounded like surge)

what BOV are you running?
is your car tuned for the FP Red?

have you tried reducing the preload on the wastegate actuator to make it spool later?
and do you have adjustable cam gears?
are they set in 0,0 or something different?

Do you have any lines tee in with the bov line?

I get surge on 4th or 5th if I get on it at low rpm, I now just down shift to avoid it.

Dont boost right into 5th you need to be high up in the RPM Band to boost in 5th thats why you surge. I think your tune could be off and External WG wont do a thing for this.

hmmm, a little weird that you are getting surging with the 84mm cover...I originally had on the 64 and mine sounded exactly the same as yours...I installed the 84mm a month or so ago and cured my surging totally.
Like RSMike said, maybe you need to try reducing the preload on the actuator...how much psi are you seeing now on the 18# actuator without any boost controller in the line?

Car sometimes peaks 30 and drops to ~26 with EBC controller. last dyno run was 498awhp at 28psi, but that run above was tuned down at ~ 420awhp
