Amsoil Expands Their SSO Lineup

http://www.amsoil.com/InfoCenter.aspx

"AMSOIL 0W-20 (ASM), 5W-30 (ASL) and 10W-30 (ATM) Synthetic Motor Oils join AMSOIL Signature Series 0W-30 to round out the new Signature Series line. Signature Series 0W-30 is now identified by product code AZO. Product code SSO will be discontinued and is only available while supplies last.

In addition to being reformulated to meet the latest API SN Resource Conserving and ILSAC GF-5 industry specifications, the new Signature Series line features all-new packaging and represents the very best motor oils AMSOIL has to offer, allowing motorists to take advantage of maximum extended drain intervals. In the interest of consistency and clarity within the Signature Series line, all four motor oils are recommended for drain intervals of up to 25,000 miles/one year, whichever comes first (15,000 miles/one year in severe service conditions).

The new Signature Series line is replacing the previous formulations of the AMSOIL top-tier oils as inventories dictate; orders will be filled with the older formulations and packaging until inventory is depleted, which may occur at varying times for each viscosity. The former Signature Series 0W-30 formulation (SSO) is available while supplies last."

I'm pretty excited about this and thought I would pass the info along. I currently run the SSO 0W30 and love it, but will probably switch to the SSO 5w30.

How often do you change your oil?

That's crazy! I guess I can save myself some money and stop changing it every 5k.

I swear I read somewhere that if you run synthetic and change it less than 5,000 then the oil doesnt have a chance to run its cycle or something. Brand New oil isnt best for a motor.

You are just wasting your money changing every 3k. I run amsoil in my evo and tacoma. I'll run the tacoma to 10-15k miles, and I run the evo to 5k.

Every oil anaylsis I posted on my thread (sticky on this forum) from various evo owners using high quality oil has had no issues going past 3k interval. The only time I will change sooner is when Im running race oil doing track days. DD I keep a little longer. Now not a lot of folks talk about the filtration aspect. If your keeping your oil past 3k I would at least replace the oil filter at that time. my .02

I usually change my oil due to its age. I could have it in there 6 or 7 months and only put 1500 miles on it. So I usually change my oil per its age not its consistency.

Same for me. Is there any issue with running SSO amsoil with their AE filter for a full year and less than 3000 miles?

So, Amsoil is gonna have a 5w30 SSO? Considering the first number refers to the cold temp what is the advantage of the 5w30 and 10w30 over the 0w30?

The only thing to consider when changing it sooner may be if you run e85 daily. Not sure if anyone has done oil testing for over 3k with all e85 miles, or if so to what extent.

you already answered your question, it designates the cold start temp.

the trick lays in being able to find the thinnest oil posible that will hold its molecular structure together, if you can use an oil that will keep its molecular structure under heat and shear and or break down by age then you are at an advantage because the engine will spin much looser. and any SSO will do this hands down,,, Group 4 synthetice baby doesn't get any better than that
