timing on evo 9? Mivec adjusted

So I am getting ready to do the timing on my evo 9. Ive done timing on dsms for the past 5 years, so I know the ins and outs for a timing job. My only question is, it looks like the Mivec cam gear has been adjusted some. I havnt checked, but I am guessing the marks on the cam gears wont line up with each other now?? Anyone done the timing on the evo 9 after the mivec gear has been adjusted?

You line up the tick mark on the gear to the valve cover. There is nothing special about the timing of the intake cam on an evo 9.

so, after pulling the first headbolt, the damn bolt wont come out cause the washer is stuck under the valve spring. Im guessing the washers dont come off of the stock headbolts??

Maybe someone can give me some insight as to why i can do a dsm timing belt job with my eyes closed, and yet I have been working for almost 4 hrs on the evo 9 timing and cant get it??

I have the jays racing piece to hold the cam gears , which is a ***** in itself to get lined up so the tool fits in the teeth. I had the tool in once, ran my belt around the crank, then oil pump, then went up to the intake cam gear, exhaust cam gear and around the idler pulley. I set the adjustment pulley, pulled the pin.

I look up at the cam gears and they are a tooth off. I dont know hoe the motor is so damn identical to the dsm, but yet so different that I cant seem to put a damn timing belt on this thing.

I finally got the timing done yesterday. I cant believe what a ***** it was for me. I could have my dsm torn apart and retimed in about an hr and a half. It took me about 8 hrs total to do this one.

It started right up though. Re-installing the watrepump pulley was a bit trik as well lol.

well, unfortunetaly, yesterday the tensioner pulley spun clockwise loosing the tension in the belt. The belt jumped a few teeth. I am gonna be pulling the head tonight. I hope there isnt a whole lot of damage. I was cruising in first at about 1400 rpms and it shut off.

From my previous dsm days, I have seen some timing belts let loose at wot and all they need is some valves. Hopefully I will be lucky.

im reviving up this thead becuse i need some advice.
me and my buddy just did a clutch job on my evo.
but one we started it up clutch job and everything else went smooth.
but now the car doesnt seem to run right. it rumbles like a subie. and throttle response from just revving it in neutral isnt smooth anymore. idling is still smooth, but once i even rev it, it hesitate then it start to rev up. all while still sounding like a subie rumble.

idk what could be the problem? maybe the timing is off now? since my friend tried to Turn the motor ( we forgot which way) to get out the original TOB and now it completely ruined the timing? i have no idea what could be the problem. so im asking you guys 1st. lmk thaanks!

*** car ran perfectly fine prior to my clutch going out on me. i dont see how changing the clutch would affect it in anyway, except for the timing. everything is bolted up and tightened so i dont thikn theres a boost leak. lmk evom!

Reviving this for the last posted reply. I'm having the exact same issue. Did it get resolved? What was the issue?

Check the Grounds. I can promise it's not timing if you didn't touch the timing belt.

If your idle is fine it's not your timing.

crank position sensor can be damaged if the pulley comes loose. It may be having trouble reading the position.
