strange sound coming from my timing belt area
I am not certain where this sound is coming from. It sounds as if it is the timing belt. My mechanic says the timing belt may be too tight. The belt is a greddy belt. By any chance might it be that? The belt is too tight and needs some more adjusting?
Its really annoying to hear it whilst my car is idling. I have a 2003 JDM evo 8 Greddy timing belt. Any suggestions?

I would listen to your mechanic.
tight timing belt will cause it to whine, it will need adjusting and possibly a new hydralic tensioner.
The Greddy (made by gates?) racing belts (blue?) stretch less than stock belts, and can cause this problem too.
Having a tight timing belt can cause damage to your oil pump

Could be the belt or even a bad pulley. If the GReddy belt is like the Gates belt and is made out of a much stronger material, then there is a good chance that it's too tight. That material (kevlar, I think) isn't letting the belt stretch like it's supposed to. A tight belt will wear all of those pulleys much faster.
