New quartermaster V1 disk vs. old V1 disks

If you didn't understand the title, basically I just changed out my slipping clutch disks, with brand new replacement disks.. It took a total of about 8-9 hours, but neither myself or the guy who was helping me ever changed an Evo clutch, and we got hung up in a few spots with hard to reach bolts and such but anyways.. now to the interesting stuff.. and a bit disappointing.

I know the V1 disks are prone to start slipping soon, but I took some measurements with a digital micrometer and the results were pretty shocking. A brand new clutch disk (including the friction material, on both sides) measured in a .250", and when I measured the OLD disks that were slipping it measured .233".... so .017" of an inch resulted in the clutch slipping. Now with that stated the metal disk thickness (not measuring friction material) is .066". So on the old disk .233" - .066" = .172" of friction material left!! I personally find this a bit ridiculous, when the "maximum wear" is supposed to be no more that .025". I put between 9-10k on this clutch (a little more than a years worth of driving) and lost only .017" of friction material, can you imagine the amount of life these clutches would have if they could use at least half of the overall thickness?? A few years maybe??

I kept the old clutch disks and I'm going to try to find a place that can machine the hub, like has been done before by a previous EvoM member to get more life out of the clutch. I have a total of .172" of material left, so I'm thinking about playing it safe, and trimming the hub between .050-.080".

What are your guys thoughts on this?? I know QM gets a bad rap for clutch life, but if something as simple as shaving a minimum of .050" of an inch off the hub gets another 2-3 years of clutch life, how many of you guys would go from your Exedys to being able to replace the clutch for less that $300 bucks doing it yourself??

This has all been covered in detail in the thread that you eluded to, but by shaving .050" off of the hub you can double your clutch life. I'm running the qm myself and didn't do the modification. I will simply replace after 10k miles. That being said, I only drive the car ~1000 miles a year

I replaced my V1 with a V2 when a seal broke on my TOB. My V2 slips now, only 3k miles on it. ~350-370whp.

Wow.. Are you serious? So much for a clutch that is supposed to have more life than V1. Only reason why my V1 probably went out before 10k miles is because I have 20 stop light/signs between my house and work.. and my work is only 4 miles away. So I live my life a quarter mile at a time..
