The original green was a TURD. I had that on my Evo. The HKS turbo is far better than the old green, and i THINK the new HTA GReen with the BB CHRA will be better than the HKS turbo, but time will tell.

This looks like a very stout rival to the new MAP EF3 turbo.

Are there other parts in your setup that kills initial spool?
My thoughts exactly. I'm getting my flame suit ready for the repercussions of bringing one of our turbos into this discussion, but I can't help but notice that this EF2 powered stock block car is spooling nearly identical to this BB HTA Green 2.4L, what's all the hubbub about?

It;s the same turbo...with ball bearings.

A dyno chart won't show the notable improvements. I feel like a broken record.

Well in a 3rd gear pull it's 200rpm slower then my 9.8 vIII turbo. If I were to do a 4th gear or add some load full boost would be 500 rpm sooner. I can make it hit full boost at 2900 if I like. The bigger motor helps move more speed on the rollers sooner ware the 2.0 is more gutless which needs more turbo causing the spool to look same or faster then a 2.4. Since it can't make any power and move the rollers till the turbo is spooled up on a 2.0.

Ball bearing turbos allwys shine on transient response(shifts) then initial spool.

The big deal is a turbo that can take a beating and not fail like all journal bearing turbos do.

BB Green HTA is good for 600whp on a dynojet on a properly prepared car all day long, we did 533 on Buschurs dyno with the standard bearing Green no correction. That turbo is an animal on the street!

Luke has his cam timing altered. An extra -5* on the intake cam slows down the spool, smooths the idle and added 20whp up top on the stock turbo. We didnt change it back to keep the test back to back.

I saw this in the results thread but didnt see if it was an VIII or IX? I did notice it was on E85 which help spool vs the gas. Obviously we also had it on Ethanol at one point as well.

Yeah I was moreso comparing it to your 478 graph which was E85 correct? Our test car was a MIVEC car so I'm sure that played a part. I certainly understand the benefits in regards to longevity and wear when it comes to ball bearing (we've got our own BB CHRA in the works as we speak) but the spool just hasn't been impressing me on both this and the FP Black testing Tom did (albeit that was an Owen Developments CHRA). Change that cam gear and get this thing to spool at 2900 like Lucas mentioned and then I'll be excited! lol

You better tell Lucas to keep two hands on the wheel at all times. As a budding road course star, he should know better

I also have my radar detector mounted during my closed course runs...LOL...

hta green bb is 200rpm slower than a stock evo 8 turbo?? doesn't that mean it's roughly spooling like a stock 9 turbo?? and can be tuned to spool faster than the stock 9 turbo?

The best way to tell exactly how quick it spools is to log a run in 5th gear on the street starting at 2000 rpm. As stated above, this setup "should" hit peak boost before 3K in that situation. . .

You can see in the vid at one point I do bog in 5th and get full boost under 3k. Tach vs boost gauge.

In my book same spool as Ix turbo and 70hp more sounds pretty awsome.
