Gotcha, thanks for the info. You guys in Colorado should be running a turbo speed sensor!

Speed sensors are a good thing at any elevation But even more useful up here or in Utah.

Take a look at Lucas English's testing of the BB HTA Green here:

Probably the hks, look into the ball bearing HTA71 that would kill the HKS 7460R, it's FP's BBK FULL alternative.

Thanks for all the response. I typically take the car up to 10k feet of elevation (various mountain towns) and I am not expecting to make 450hp up there. I should have mentioned that my HP numbers were for sea level. What I actually make up here would be determined by the tune :-)

I still have not made up my mind but the HKS 7460 is looking like my turbo. I am willing to give up top end for spool up. And looking at the dyno charts with my fuel of choice (e85) the HKS looks excellent.

Once again is the HKS turbo even serviceable here in the US? I read the letter from HKS claiming they were completely pulling out all US dealers and service centers.
And since you are going to be pushing it near max efficiency you should look into this before making a decision or even considering which is the best fit for you.

Like everyone has been telling you if it was last week they would recommend the his but this week FP announced the BB option which just made the his a thing of the past. Wait a minute for all of our turbo companies to release their bb units and then go from there.

Those were nice numbers for the Red at altitude, COVR4. What fuel did you test it on, and what elevation above sea level was it at exactly? If you don't mind my asking. Thanks.

Yeah, I agree that at altitude he'll need as much compressor as possible. I would do a BB Red with the 84mm Flow Advancement Cover and SD with a 4 inch intake from the filter outlet to the 84mm reduction at the compressor inlet, and maybe a 9.8cm turbine housing to further build shaft speed at lower RPMs.

If he goes with a dinky turbo like the ARMS then he just won't be moving enough air at altitude through the dinky compressor. Another option since he stated to not being in much of a hurry would be to wait for Chad's upcoming BB version of the BBKB. The BBKB spools faster than the Red and moves almost as much air. So, with a BB cartridge it might be just the ticket at altitude. What do you think?

My vote is for the 7460R... I pulled 392 on 93 and 496 on E85 with mine; but that is here at sea level . If FP is now offering a BB Red & Black option I would run with those, but it would be to push for 500+ and I believe the OP is only after 450. Jus My .02c but wait until people start posting #'s with the new FP's and go from there since you're not in a hurry

Like I have been saying on this thread, the BB HTA71 will be better than the HKS7460r, this new post from AWD has it just in journal bearing form on a stock 2.0 block, with a few bolt on's!

tiggeryellow1. Yeah, this turbo(HKS7460R) should be right up there at the top of the OP's short list. He wants fast spool. RTErnie swears by this turbo and has compared it personally to the other contenders and it came out on top. The BBK Full is right up there as well. In addition, the newly introduced BB Green should be included along with the other two as well.

Incidentally, that the JB BBK Full should be mentioned in the same breath with the other two BB turbos speaks oodles for its capabilities especially on pump gas. Myself personally, I just cannot wait for the upcoming BB BBKB to be released. I think that will be my next turbo.

How many lbs of airflow is the the 71's compressor rated at? i don't know anything about this turbo, though I apparently should. Ignorance is bliss!
