engine hesitates then shuts down. cranks but won't turn over

I have been daily driving this evo until now, it broke down and left me stranded on the side of the road. Prior to breaking down, when I gave it a little gas it would hesitate/struggle. It hesitates even more when I give it more throttle than normal. I can see my boost gauge needle pushing boost but it just hesitates. It dies slowly to a halt and now it won't turn over. I checked my intercooler pipes, diverter valve all seem to be clamped on.

A little history that could help solve the problem but not sure if its the problem. About 3 weeks ago I had to remove the EGR block plate and put on the EGR valve to pass inspection in NY. I never had the time to put the EGR block plate back on so I just capped off the vacuum hoses. Could it be my EGR valve that caused this problem?

My car is doing the same thing... it is going to probably be the TPS (throttle position sensor).

if TPS is the culprit, would it need a new TPS replacement? or can it be cleaned up and re-used?

It is resistor with a slider on a carbon disc - like the volume control in an old radio. If you can get it apart it is possible to clean it. My experience with trying to do this is that the cleaning only works for a short time and then the problem returns.

gotcha. better to replace with an oem piece. however oem is pretty pricey... would a 3rd party brand work?
