that design is basically a Torsen diff. The same one style will be used in the RS.

I have never seen a Quaife that was any less than $1000.

Do you think the OE one will be reliable though? Esp. under racing conditions... didn't AMS already kill one in a parking lot?

I sure have. Quaife has differentials for VW 02A/02J transmissions. Autotech sells them for $700-800, excluding the bolt kit.

A Peloquin differential (same, but a bit cheaper -- some say a bit better), and it includes the bolt kit and new speedo gear.

Gotta find the right vendor . . . unless those vendors rape you on price based on the car you drive.

They're all the same design, just different sizes. I don't see how pricing should differ all that much. I could be way off, though . . .

You guys wouldn't prefer a clutch-type differential? I know ATS, Cusco and Kaaz have them out, but the question is will they fit the USDM Evolution?

putting a clutch type diff in the front is crazy. The clutches wear out at a faster rate in the front, therefore requiring a teardown after a given mileage. For a racecar its a good setup.

Clutch type LSD in the front will increase understeer. Just look at the sti. One of my FWD cars had a clutch type lsd and under power going in a turn it wanted to go straight. Now I have a Quaife in there and it's just sick going in the turns. It actually pulls you in. Almost crashed the first time out while going in the turn becasue it pulled in so tight.

Alex...

The Sti's understeer has more to do with the chassis and suspension geometry than it's sluggish electronic diffs. The torsen advantage is its seamlessness, they are so smooth in operation. A well maintained and clutch set-up will work just as well (or race teams wouldn’t use them) but requires more maintenance. Torsens are the go for a street car

I would like a center diff for the torque split AND so I can use the handbrake

We ahve run clutch type LSD's on Subaru's for years...none ever have worn yet, and none have increased understeer at all...all depends on chassis setup, tire selection, tire pressure, and whether then diff is a 1 way or 1.5 way unit. In all the years we have been selling Cusco diffs, I have never had one come back for repair or had a call asking about replacement clutch disks.

Cusco has no plans to make on for the USDM Evo VIII at this time.....we have spoken with them about it, but for the time being, there are no plans.

The ones for the Evo VII do not fit due to the fact that the USDM Evo VIII transffer case seems to be unique unto itself.

group buy interest level for quaife diff...

I will try to get them to make a batch of LSD's for the evo.

No guarantee but if we get enough people signed up we can get a batch made...

Sign up if you are seriously interested and no price yet but these things are some money. If you don't understand what they do it is probably not for you...
