If you have that part of the manual then you should have the part that shows you the orientation. I would tell you but I can't remember off the top of my head.

Damn you, I had this question when I was putting my motor back together and not one person answered....so I just put it together and she's been running so I guess it was the right way ...I did get a cam synchronizer? code for the sensor but once I cleared it, it never came back. Either I was lucky to do it right the first time or it relearned it and adjusted to it?

Just set you engine to TDC then unscrew the 3 10mm bolts and check to see if that piece is in the correct position. Take you like 15 min total. Including pulling your spark plugs so you can crank the engine.

It will run in either position the same from what I've seen. Many times trying to fix local heaps hoping this was a problem and switching it to the correct position( found two wrong so far) the cars ran exactly the same after, does not throw a code in the wrong position either.

Wow, that's good to know! I pray my car starts up with no issues after this major build I'm doing it all by the book, hoping to make some good power out of it. Now I just need a big T on the cheap

When i build the head for my evo 5 mine had some paint marks on that had to be lined up.

The workshop manual even stated something about marks that needed to be lined up.
