Finally made it up to English Racing today to tune. Working in uncharted whp and tq territory on a built motor, so I got a bunch of help from Aaron to get through it quickly. Results were solid, but not earth shattering: 425 ft-lbs and 485 whp with boost peaking at 33 lbs and decreasing to 26 lbs at 7500 rpm. I'll post up dyno results on Tuesday. I was hoping for more power; the only things I can think that could be holding power below 500 whp are the 100 cell cat, stock UICP, and lack of SD. I suppose I'll have to address those in the future.

Quick note - my current setup spools pretty darn early, and my BBK is surging a bit when rolling up the front end of the powerband. I was hitting peak boost (31 psi) at 3600-3700 rpm, and I had to delay the boost to about 4000 rpm to stop the compressor surge.

what about the HKS 274/278 cams? did Aaron say anything regarding what he was seeing on the dyno vs say a set of GSC S2's? 485 is still pretty nice for the displacement.. and yes the cat definitely cant be helping one bit. is the rest of the exhaust 3" ? no secrets in the resonator where they neck down below 3" etc?

Aaron characterizes the new HKS cams as somewhere between and S1 and S2, so they should be good enough. The RRE Stealth is supposed to be 3" through and through, but I've not ever verified.

either way mrfred, nice results! truthfully i wonder if the cat might be taking away a few hp. is the 100 cell cat the highest flowing cat in the market?

I feel that they are probably closer to the S2s than the HKS cams have ever been before. I guess if you cant beat em, copy em. The most I have done on that turbo on E85 before was 500whp at 33psi. Normal mods for us, no cat, SD, S2s. The car in question was a stock bottom end car with a MBC so getting it to hold more out the top wasnt going to happen without a possible rod splitting spike.

THIS IS NOT MYCHAILO'S GRAPH

THIS IS NOT MYCHAILO'S GRAPH

As you'll see when Mychailo posts the graphs this one was over 2psi less at peak power. Knowing that the BBK can hold 25.7psi at 6500+ I think Jeremy may have made more horsepower yet, hard to say. It was also nearly out of injector where Mychailo may still have had some (not sure).

Aaron

Alright, here is the dynosheet hot off the press from JB. Lower whp/tq traces are the base tune with ultraconservative timing and a bit lower boost. Note: Tailpipe AFRs appear lean because I actually have a cat. AFRs on my LC-1 are dead on 12.0:1.

^^^lol, I will go grab the files and move the plot line to peak power to show the boost difference between the 2 engines.

And for giggles the difference was 4 psi between the 2 cars at peak power-

It will be interesting to see what happens when we get rid of the cat on Mychailo's car and then redyno. I think that will be a better comparison between the HKS cams and the S2s. It really seems though that Jeremy's car would have made a lot more power if it had held 27.5psi out the top.

i think so too Aaron. 4psi is a big difference uptop, and the bbk full does respond to more boost uptop fairly well.

Throw a Red/Black or Green on it if you want good high boost power.

Exactly. I feel that there really isnt any comparison since this turbo is done at 500whp it seems. The HTA Green and up would really wake it up at these boost levels. Luke was making 530+ at 32psi with S1s in his car on the Green. It also had a stock intake manifold.

You know I love those ported stock intake manifolds too!
