Going for the drop-in build at English Racing

I'll start by saying that my engine performance goals are a 4000-7500 rpm powerband with no more than 550 ft-lbs of torque and 600 whp. I really like having a fast car, but my budget just won't allow an all out engine build. After talking with Aaron a bunch (probably to the point of annoyance) and reading around on the forums, I could find no reason not to go with a drop-in build. So, its underway.

A few highlights of the build parameters are:
- New style JE asymmetric skirt pistons in factory bore size. I have to wait a month to get these. Ugh. The motor has already been torn down and cylinders honed. Aaron said the piston-to-wall clearance is going to be about 0.0045".
- R&R steel rods. Lucas said the clearance on the rod bearings will likely be about 0.0016"-0.002".
- Keeping the balance shafts.
- Keeping the piston oil squirters.
- Kiggly HLA.
- Buschur modified oil pan.
- Cosworth crank scraper (via Buschur).
- ARP head studs and main bolts.

Power mods being done at the same time:
- English Racing port job on the head.
- MAP O2 eliminator with merge.
- MAP Rev3 intake manifold.
- Muffled test pipe.

For near term, I'll be staying with:
- BBK Full.
- MAP short runner exhaust manifold.
- HKS 272/278 cams (new version).
- ETS 3.5" intercooler.
- Factory MAF-based air metering.

My goal is to set the BBK Full E85-powered torque and whp record. Not sure my stock clutch will hold it, but I'm gonna give it a try. :-) Many thanks to English Racing for being patient with me on this. I've been bugging Aaron about this for almost a year.

Sounds like a very nice build! I wish English Racing was closer as I am considering doing drop ins as well. Better start saving for that new clutch now because this build with the BBK is going to be a bit much for the stock clutch.

Not trying to steal from Lucas but I have pistons on the shelf.

When you order the other parts from us please contact me direct so I can hook you up on pricing.

Best of luck.

Can't wait to see how this plays out. I'll be doing something even simpler than this with ER next year hopefully

I'm glad you started this thread. I feel as if I am on the same page as you!
My power goals are the same and of course I have a limiting budget where an all out built is out of the question.

Approximation: how much do you think this project of yours will cost?
Labor cost?
Parts cost?

Prices vary on drop-in builds. Depends on the parts choice and how efficient the shop is at doing the work. I definitely would only have it done at a shop that knows the 4G63 really well. Since you're in the Chicago area, you might want to contact AMS or David Buschur. I know that David does a bunch of drop-ins.
