5Zigen Miracle exhaust dyno numbers
Just got back from Pann Auto Performance (San Diego) and put on a 5Zigen cat back exhaust. Wow this thing is light! 3", small neck down to match up with stock cat. One silencer and a small canister muffler, has a slip fit between mid pipe and rear section.
I dynoed on Pann's Dyno Dynamics and got a max of 239WHP after 3 runs - this is stock with no mods but K&N Panel filter.
After the 5Zigen got 262WHP. This was after three runs with intercooler spray set to Auto and a short blast before each run.
Main gains for HP come after 5K RPM with a very nice increase of area under the curve, with a nice jump in torque from 3100-4550RPM. Gave up a few ft/lbs while off boost.
Pann uses a large 4'+ fan for cooling right next to the intercooler.
I'm picky about the sound, idle is not much more than stock, exhaust note is definately lower all around (not sure if it's too annoying yet). I need to give a few days to break it in and see what changes. I have yet to drive around very long to let the ECU relearn the change.
fyi evolutionm.net =) appreciate the good info here and the entertaining drama

More feedback on 5Zigen
I just got back from doing a little 60 mile run out in the backwoods of 'Diego. BTW I'm on 91 oct.
Ok...It's loud. Unbearable, no. Workable on a daily driver? I think so. There's good and bad to it, 3K RPM and below on light throttle and even partial throttle it's very quiet, you can easily listen to the stock radio at 27 (volume). It takes about 38-40 to begin to get around the exhaust when under decel (the worst) from 5k-3.5K in any gear but 5th. I really dislike boomy or too deep of an exhaust, it's draining on the ears and fatiguing on long drives. If it were not for the barely above stock noise levels on freeway cruising (65-80) I'd have taken it back already. You can drive off from a stop without much drama if you shift before 3k rpm, and do a 1st to 3rd type of shift with light throttle. If you drive lightly it's not bad, but when you get on the loud pedal it's loud. It'll be an incentive for me to keep the speed down around town.
Power is nice, helped all around. Helps with a quicker spoolup when punching it on a roll. The stock ECU is still futzing with the top end, with sprayer on I can get some awesome pulls up top, definately more power after 5k, noticable is what I'd call it. Keeping things on boil with 7K shifts the exhaust is quiet, you hear more engine at that point.
