So my buddy has an evo 8 with a bunch of **** on it. But anyway he ripped his intercooler off on a parking barrier. So i had to remount the intercooler and reconnect some of the boost piping cause he doesnt know a thing about cars. So when he started to drive it wont boost over 3 pounds and when the turbo starts to spool it kinda sounds like a supercharger or this weird whining noise. It almost makes me think it a boost leak but it doesnt really sound like a boost leak. I dont know that much about evos, so any help woukd be great. Thanks.

 

Check the clamps and the hose couplers that connect the intercooler piping to the intercooler inlet and outlet.

 

sounds like a massive boost leak to me.

 

Have you checked the couplers? The intercooler itself might have been severely damaged in the accident. Run a boost leak test and tell us what you find.

 

Defineitly a huge boost leak.

 

Intercooler core damaged. Doesn't take much especially if you try to jump curbs.

 

Do a boost leak test, most likely there is a big boost leak. If not and he ran completely over something, check the cat. Smashed up insides of a cat will cause low boost.
