I am having the same problem. My waterpump failed twice in one month. Once, a few weeks ago when the freeze plug blew out while I was boosting. I replace the oem water pump and it failed again this past weekend, when the weep hole leaked after a night of boosting. I've come to the conclusion that maybe my head is lifting, or maybe my head gasket is going. After the first waterpump failed, I re-torqued the head. I have L19 headstuds and Iam making close to 600hp on pump, boosting 30psi. I wont know for sure until I pull the head to make sure. But, basically something is over pressurizing my coolant system and is causing my water pump to fail.

Yea, if you warped your head re-torquing the studs isn't going to matter. If you can't think of any time your car might have overheated, you should probably be fine though. I warped my head on a hillclimb (overheated) and had to get it surfaced, but it wasn't that bad to to get it back on. Now that I left off the intake manifold bracket, it will be cake to take off now, that was the biggest PITA of removing the head.

Hey , I know there is a TSB regarding the waterpumps from Mitsu, (technical service bulletin. )
SOURCE: Mitsubishi Tech Talk Article April/May 2005
TITLE: Water Pump Failure
APPLIES TO: 2004-05 Lancer Evolution
SERVICE TIP:
Premature water pump failure may be due to the core plug popping out, resulting in coolant leakage. Replace the water pump (p/n MD979313). Be sure to perform the radiator cap pressure check as described in the service manual.

This has me thinking now... One month back, I installed a 1.3 bar radiator cap because the 1.1 bar radiator caps weren't holding pressure and leaking out the cap and last week before going out to race (I always check over everything on my car before doing so), I found some coolant on the back of my block near the oil pan and its pure green so its not mixing with anything. I didn't think 3 more psi would ruin my water pump...
