Losing Coolant after hard driving
#32
could it be that
it was never properly topped off after the pump was installed?

I have the cooling system pressure tester pictured above and use it. Usually the pressure cap fails this test after being used for about 30K. Either the cap won't hold the required pressure or the seals are gone. In other words, most people are driving around with defective caps.

Had the same issue on my stock motor with 1 for 1 headstud replacement.....it was the headgasket...now on my stroker I have standing coolant on the number 3 piston...hope the head isn't destroyed.

A few things to note here.
1st, if the head is lifting under boost you are never going to get it to leak with a compression tester OR a radiator pressure tester.
2nd, If The headgasket is leaking under boost then it will cause the coolant res. level to go up, Not down. So warm the car up and set the res. level to full and go boost it hard a few times. Stop and check the level. If its high, it would be a bad rad. cap or leaking headgasket. Also note that when the coolant temp rises the res. level can go up a tiny bit so just be looking for any major change in level. If its low, you most likely have a leak somewhere.
Checking for coolant leaks the easy way is to buy some Tracer dye for coolant and get a black light and yellow glasses. Just like what you use to check for A/C leaks.
My car has done the same thing the OP describes. It was 2 tiny leaks.
Hope this helps.....
