this might help figure out the problem since the car is down from the spark plug wire breaking and cant have anyone follow me to see what it smells like or video. i found this video and it looks pretty much like what my car is doing. this is a na civic hatch and at about the 15-16 second mark if you look behind the padding on the bar it looks like what my car is doing. right as it goes wot you see a plume of smoke billow out and then it stops.

If your rings and/or pistons are bad, but say your compression checks out good (like what happens sometimes with exposed ring-lands/minorly melted/minorly cracked pistons), you will get excessive oil splatter at idle out of the tailpipe. Put a white piece of paper back there and it will be splattered on instantaneously with black wet soot (10 seconds or so/warm engine). Also, you'll have the famous black mark on the pavement where you park only it will be a LOT darker and sootier. You may not and probably won't see ANY smoke at idle or free rev. No splatter, no smoke=better sign/problem is up top or turbo.
ten years later -- its been right every time.

Good luck.

I haven't been able to drive mine for the last week due to the spark plug wire issue I mentioned. I picked up the new ones today since they came in and im going to install them here in a bit. Im hoping this solves my issue and maybe that cylinder was not firing until higher rpms.

seriously doubt it in my case since im only running 24psi on the stock turbo with arp head studs like previously mentioned. and if it was in fact that it would probably be doing it once it hit full boost and not as i went wot and the turbo just starts to spool up.

Sorry to bring this thread back to life lol but i was curious about the white smoke also. on the dyno at WOT my car put out a little white smoke. I dont think its blow by because on the line that normally runs from the valve cover to the intake is no longer there and i just have a breather filter on the valve cover. Could this be fuel smoke as well? My rings must still be good because i made 398whp in 106 degree dry AZ heat.

Hi guys, lol reviving old thread if anyone is still responsive... Did OP ever figure out the issue??

My car seems to blow white greyish smoke only on WOT and more so on lower gears than higher.

Car also burns quite bit of oil 2qrts to 2.5 per 5000km I recall. No leaks etc. Cars been doing it for at least 4years .. But still runs fine etc.

Any ideas 😞😯?? Thanks!

This long thread and nobody asked does the car have a cat. Well, pull the cat and occasionally see smoke behind the car with the best running engine in the world. If you want to know what the problem is look for disappearing fluids. No fluids disappearing - forget about it.
