Infamous P0011 SES Light
#31
I just disabled the sensor check vs feedback rate and the other main OBD sensor failures. Its a last ditch choice though since it does leave some other sensors that could have issues not actually throwing a code. It wont hurt anything, it will just add a degree of difficulty troubleshooting other issues down the road. You can always throw the original ROM back on though for a code check if the car acts weird.

Hey any chance you can help me out with this? I've had everything done even as far as havin the cams pulled out and reinstalled and everything else triple checked. Tuned again and everythin and I cannot get this light to go away. Any help would be much appreciated.

Most times it's a value too high in the mivec tables or someone has placed the intake cam gear one tooth forward when installing cams or changing the timing belt.
Since much of the time the intake cam gear is movable when changing the timing belt, it's fairly easy to over advance the intake gear when working with the belt off

Ok well make sure you check the oil control valve on the back of the head on the passenger side. If you had it all checked and your ocv checks out then you need to get your mivec cam gear checked out. Then if that passes then i would get some to disable the sensor check as we done with mine. And since then the car has ran like a champ. But only do what we done as a last resort. Keep us posted.

So frustratinggggg..... Lol
Ok well I was told all that was good to go. But I dont know how much I trust the guy so ima dig into my self. I'm not to familiar on what to look for, getting everything pulled apart not a big deal, wrenching is the easy part but when I get to the ocv and te mivec gear what exactly should I be looking for? Pictures anythin would help. Normally I deal with old school v8's but I feel in love with my evo and I'm trying to learn about it. I'm getting there, so any tips tricks, pix which ever would help thanks guys.

When you apply 12 volts to the ocv it should move. And as far as the mivec goes you pretty much have to have someone with a mitsubishi scan tool check it. but check for tool marks of any kind on the gear. Be careful when taking apart because im sure you know by now parts arent cheap. So reshearch and dont break stuff. Also make note of all you timing marks because like Anarchy99 said if your timing is off it can throw this code also. Good luck.

question about the valve itself, my plastic connector ripped off the valve-the female part where you would clip in the plug. i have already ordered a whole new valve, but when i try to remove my old one it seems stuck, is it just the 1 bolt holding it in? and if it tore while driving is it possible for the valve to still be open and stuck in the head?
#39
Yes it is just one bolt. It has to have power to open so no. If anything I would think it is stuck closed. They are hard to get out sometimes. Trying moving it back and forth a bit to get it out. Like rotate it while pulling on it. Hope this helps.

I got this dtc after swapping kelford 272 for some gsc s2's on a friends car. I lowered the mivec tables still sets the p0011. The exhaust cam gear lines up perfect but the intake gear is slightly advanced according to the valve cover mark. But if I were to retard it one tooth it would be further away from the mark. Also i marked the intake cam reluctor wheel before i took the old cams out so i wouldnt get it backwards.Has anyone tried to retard the cam one tooth and see if this dtc goes away?

Me and my people didn't because the teeth were dead on. But I would think if u lowered the mivec tables beings that it is a adjustable gear then it would produce the same effect. Make sure u didn't get any debris on that mivec oil valve or your filter for the valve isn't clogged up either. Good luck.

Relearn resets the keep alive memory in the pcm so it can rerun all the checks that is only runs every so many key cycles. I think the easiest way to reset it without a scan tool is to unhook the battery for about 10 mins. then touch the cables together for a few seconds. then reconnect the cables. I think. im sure a quick search on the website would tell you. good luck man. Make sure the ocv valve is clean and the connector is making good connection with no oil interference.
