turbo diesel engine oil in our cars!!!??

I was talking with my cousin and his engine building friend who has a turbo stang. i was *****ing about the price of racing oils and going on about how ****ty it is the zddp levels have dropped so much in the past few years. He said like it was something we all should know mobil1 5w40 full syn. turbo diesel engine oil has 1200-1350 zinc and 1200 phos. levels he isnt 100% sure how good it would work with our cars but i use 10-40 now. ive used every oil from ams,vr-1 to castrol edge 10-40 with lucas zinc additive and have it down after a few blackstone labs to where ill have my zinc and phos. in the area of 1300-1320ppm. this all being said, anyone run this? any reason why it couldnt be ran. its been about 10degrees here in nj in the mornings past few days and it suuuucks trying to get the car going so i want to switch to 5-40 and thinking about using this its cheap, good, and synthetic. i believe it will be fine with our cams. its been made for long hardcore trucking cross country so it will def hold up very well and i do oil changes 1200miles or one month what ever comes first. input please!!

I've been using Amsoil turbo diesel 5w 30 oil for a year now (10-12k) . Has something around 1300-1400 zinc and phos to help protect the bearings on my HTA green as well as the motor. If I'm not mistaken diesel oil can be beneficial for people running E85 fuel.

I have not done any lab tests, but so far so good. Since I'm on the OEM block/internals I prefer to stay with 5w 30. I've tried a (non diesel) 10w 40 once and I feel its a little thick for oem clearance.

Agreed. I've been very happy with the new AMSoil 10W30 Z-Rod oil after switching from AMSoil AMO 10W40.

there are very few oils left with decent zinc and phos and most are diesel oils. the oil doesnt care what kind of fuel you run, its job is to protect and reduce wear. diesel and gas engines have the same wear items.

A lot of the Subaru community runs the Rotella T from Shell also. Tried and true. @Gary - better not call it "AMS oil" or more people will be confused.. I still giggle when people think its AMS' oil.

I feel I keep reiterating this but... yea, it is a turbo diesel oil and works great for any turbo car application.

Many folks on here see the benefits of using diesel oils simply because they are low viscocity with heavy duty additives, example the HDD 5w30 has over 1400 PPM of zinc and phos.

Question:
Can Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck be Used in a High Compression Car?
I was wondering if Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 is safe to run in a standard American unleaded fuel only V6 DOHC high compression car? 5W-30 does not cut it for my needs and I want to use 5W-40 FULLY synthetic motor oil. So my question to you is, Will Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 have any ill effect on the motor I want to use the oil in? What makes the diesel oil so special? Does it supersede the oil made for gasoline engines?
-- Rick Speare, Clinton Township, MI

Answer:
Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck is an outstanding oil that can be used in gasoline passenger cars since it carries API SM credentials, so we would not have any concerns about performance. Diesel engine oils generally contain higher levels of detergents, dispersants, and antiwear additives, but keep in mind that higher levels of the ZDDP antiwear additive can be detrimental to catalytic converters and other emission control equipment over time, which is why this additive has been reduced in ILSAC GF-4 oils. Also you will not see optimum fuel economy benefits with diesel type oil.
