EVO rod weights
#16
I dont understand how the stock rod is soo small and heavy? I need to weigh 1G big rods because they are huge compared to evo rods. How much do you think the rod weight really matter?

Wow - for some reason I never really put together that rods could have such different weight differences (well, obviously Ti will be lighter). Saving .63lbs per cylinder would seem like huge gains... not to mention the ability to rev much higher with that much less stress on the rod bolts.

How do I know what Rods I have?
I bought an evo 8 and it came with a forged engine but one pistons melted during tuning.
The weight of the rod is 615grams and it's slightly smaller than 150mm !
Anyone know how I can check what make it is? It has arp screws on it , if that's what you called them.

So.. essentially if the stock rods are 690 grams. Choosing anything below that should be a good weight savings.
For instance,
MAP Ultimate Duty Rods at 630 grams should be a very good upgrade?

My all time favorite is the Carrillo... I think it really made a difference on my setup...
I had weighted them at 574 grams on my digital scale

So my titanium rods at ~400gm will save about 1160gm, or about 2.5 pounds of rotating weight. Add that with lightweight Wiseco pistons and my superlight Winberg crankshaft and I can't wait to see how this thing performs. I guess we'll see if you can go "too light"
