installing manley piston rings

im in the process of putting my motor together and got to installing the rings. i opened the packet and found 5 rings. 3 are for the oil ring as expected, 1 was for bottom ring with a dot and bevel so i can see how that goes, top ring is identified by silver/grey outer edge but has no dot or bevel saying which side faces up? so i can assume that it goes either way? biggest problem is... there is a separate 5th packet with 4 of the same black rings instead of being distributed in the other 4 packs of rings. these rings have a petruding dot on one side and an intruding in the same spot on the other side with no bevel????what the hell these for? it looks tighter than the rest because the ends over lap......any ideas??

The 5th packet bro are the oil rail supports, they are not piston rings.I suppose your engine is a stroker and Manley's stroker pistons use oil rail supports. If you read the instructions carefully you will notice that.

yeh ur right but what they for? do we use them for our evos or are they for subarus or something? or do i have to use them being stroker pistons?? if this is true then they would replace the bottom oil ring? the data sheet isnt very clear at all

Since you have stroker pistons you have to use them.If you measure the oil ring space on the piston you will see that it has exactly the space for the oil ring AND the oil rail support. The support is placed at the bottom of the oil ring .

So it's used instead of the othe bottom oil ring? Or added on as a 4th oil ring? 4g64 long rod pistons ARE stroker pistons right?

As a 4th oil ring and supports the 3 oil rings.Yes,4G64 long rod have stroker compression distance.

16 thou sounds a bit tight.

I ran 17 thou top right with 86mm Mahle pistons - low expansion alloy.

shouldn't you be multiplying by 0.0055?
Rather than 0.0045?

This will give you 19 thou top ring.
