aftermarket clutch review

i started this thread to get some feedback on people using aftermarket clutches on thier evo's. i think it will help other make a descision when that dreadful time arrives.

i think it would be good for people to tell us what aftermarket clutch they are using and how the like or dislike it. if you have changed more then one and used diffrent brands that would be a great comparison to write about.

please no arguing about a clutch you havent tried youself.

damn I was gonna start the same thread... great idea... I was lookin into clutches and everything and many questions arrive... are the 1300-1400 dollar clutches like exedy and cusco worth the extra penny or would a 500-600 dollar one like ACT do.... granted that ones like the exedy include a flywheel in the package

I've got about 1300 miles on the Cusco twin plate. I haven't outright launched it but I slip it pretty regularly and it definitely takes it no problem.

The clutch has a little chatter and is a little trickier to modulate than stock. There is some howling noise when I do not perfectly rev-match on shifts. I am not sure what that is (having the installer listen to it tomorrow).

then you slip the clutch, and the clutch isn't smelling b/c of whatever reasons (e.g. its gripping better), the stress is usually transferred over to other parts of the drivetrain (i.e. the transmission itself) which is probably not a good thing.

That extra stress doesn't just disappear with an aftermarket clutch, it just gets relocated.

I hear you. Don't think my slips are shocking the system that much (mostly when I slip it's to minimize the chatter) but depending on if I'm wrong I'll let you know in either 3,000 miles or 30,000

I use the Act set up from RRE. I love it. No I can't slip it very much, but it's not like I can't at all. I look at it this way since I can't slip it I can't mess it up again. May sound stupid to some but that's just how I feel.

I have about 1500 miles on a HKS GD max clutch with a ss line upgrade and polly shifter bushings. I just ran the car at the track last night and the clutch works mutch better than stock mt 60 foot time were 1.78 with no clutch smell. I say spend a few bucks more and do it right the first time.
