In my view which is probably distorted, and to a certain extent, arguably prejudiced in favor of MBC's...People that run EBC's or employ some sort of ECU monitored boost control setup assume that the waste gate puck is 100% completely and firmly shut down onto its seat until the solenoid signals the actuator to open. This is not always true under all circumstances.

Imagine a case in which the solenoid has not yet signaled the actuator to lift the flapper valve off its seat but that exhaust pressure inside the turbine housing exceeds the rate of the actuator's internal spring plus any additional preload on the flapper valve. Under these circumstances, the flapper valve will lift off its seat regardless of solenoid signals to the contrary.

Of course if the waste gate actuator has been properly adjusted to preload the spring then the EBC or ECU controlled setup will be able to do its job properly. But, with no preload dialed in the exhaust pressure inside the turbine housing is going to lift the flapper off its seat early even with an expensive EBC signaling away like crazy.

Sorry for taking this discussion a bit off topic. My comments were made in a very general sense. I realize that there are people out there who can setup and use an EBC properly to work in conjunction with a properly preloaded waste gate. I was just trying to make a point and not dumping on EBC's in general. Sorry for the rant.

^ I am sure that we all appreciate it though.

I know that I have learned better ways to setup my wastegate and boost control. Also it is nice to have someone willing to help out people. I try to do what I can in the WMI forums and anytime the P0300 shows its ugly head. Sparky is like our forum wastegate guru.

Without Sparky there would be many noobs with no boost...
