ARP headstuds install

so ive read a bunch of threads about installing ARP headstuds and though there is some concern i will be doing the 1x1 method. my question is from all the threads ive read it states to install your first stud till its tightest then when you go to install the nut you should torque it to a lower spec then loosen then torque it more then loosen then torque again to its appropriate final ft lbs rating. then go on to the next stud and repeat? just wanting to make sure i am understanding this correctly... any tips or tricks would be much appreciated

I did the 1x1 method as well and did the progressive torquing but I didn't loosen the nut each time. I would take old one, thread in new one until finger tight, then put on nut and tq in increments of 60 - 90 - 100. I did that for each one and I never had a problem.

just 60, 90, 100 done? do the studs need to be torqued to anything specific or just finger tight

I have the L19 headstuds and torqued them a little more than most people do. Most people stop around 80-90 ft lbs. You don't torque the stud itself when you put it in. Just thread it in and use the proper allen key to screw it down but you don't need to tighten it too much. The nut you put on is what gets torqued down not the stud.

I think ARP calls for around 80 ft lbs so I would do 40 - 60 - 85.
