Rear Diff Clicking

I did a search on this and found several threads that discussed it, but there was no real concensus.

While turning, is it normal to have substantial clicking from the rear differential during slow speed accelleration?

If it is normal, is there an oil that can help quiet it down a little?

How many miles on the car ?
Mechanical LSDs do make plenty of noise when new - I presume the finish quality on an OEM unit is better than an aftermarket unit, but my Kaaz 1.5-way at 60% made the most frightening crunching, banging and clanking noises until I got it bedded in. It still makes some noise which perhaps be described as a kind of clicking. Perhaps your unit wasn't finished quite as well ?

Breaking the Kaaz in sounded and felt worse than driving on a grenaded transfer case.

Noisy? Yes. Clicking, no. Better have that checked out. Does it seem like it is binding in any way - does the car want to decelerrate a little too fast??

i believe i have the same thing you do. When i turn from a stop, i do hear the sound coming from the rear. Almost like a tie-rod end clicking. I believe its normal since my car did it since i purchased it with 6 miles on it.

Im just going to deal with it. If it breaks, :Mitsu: will have to fix it!

why deal with it? get it fixed now, you payed for the car and it should run right. If I even think i have a problem I take it to the dealer right away and make them fix it. One problem could lead to another and another.

My Kaaz does often make (now) minor 'groaning noises'. It's a function of how this type of LSD works. There is minor binding, again for the same reason. Not in a straight line though, the binding is only apparent if the car's turning and one is consciously feeling for it. Not like having a seized centre diff though :-)

From a stop accelerating and turning at the same time, it becomes most obvious - more noise, more push until the LSD grip overcomes the tyre's grip. It is always making some noise, the volume dropped as I got more miles on it.

This is "click...click..click.clickclickclick" when turning and accelerating at the same time. It sounds EXACTLY like an old Honda with bad CV joints, except the sound is coming from the rear. The car has 900 miles on it and only does it when it is warm. There is no binding sensation, other than the normal center diff type vibration. I'm afraid that the techs at the dealer won't have any clue as to whether it is normal or not either.

No, it's not like a bad CV/axle joint.

I'm not sure I could actually hear something that quiet :-)

But no, you wouldn't mistake the Kaaz noises for a bad CV.
