Help me unlock my MIVEC cam gear

I did a HG job a few months ago and ever since then ive had a rough idle and low vacuum, along with a P0011 code. So fast forward to yesterday when i decided to quit being lazy and take a look. What i found was that the mivec gear is at tdc but the line or mark on the cam is advanced. So my question is, can i push the cam back, if so how, since it doesnt seem to want to budge or do i need a new gear? Any help is appreciated, thanks

Your timing belt is off by a tooth, put it back one tooth on the intake gear and go drive your car again. Don't complicate the process more by taking anything apart

so the timing could be off even if the marks on the gear line up with the marks on the valve cover? ill bump it back a tooth and see what happens thanks ill give that a shot

If you rotate the engine backwards and forwards you should hear and see the cam pulley swinging back and forth from each stop.

That's only if there's no oil pressure within the mivec gear. There is a check valve in the oil feed line from the block that keeps oil pressure in the gear for a considerable amount of time

Its in the engine timing or in the MIVEC maps. P0011 is MIVEC over advanced. Either your maps exceed 28.8* advance on MIVEC intake cam programming in the ecu maps OR your engine is out of time on the mivec cam gear.

What cams you using? stock?

Oh yeah and make sure your MIVEC solenoid IS PLUGGED BACK IN from the head swap you did.

checked the map and it doesnt exceed 28.8, so we're good there. The mivec gear is the one i bumped back a tooth but ill pull the vc and check again tomorrow, the solenoid is plugged in so i guess it has to be timing. Thanks for your help in trying to figure this out, i really appreciate it

small update, havent had a chance to check timing but yesterday i trashed her all day at the local autox and i didnt get the p0011 code at all, so i thought all was good since she seemed to pull a little harder and run a little better. Well i was wrong, code came back not 5 min after i got going this morning lol fml. Im thinking it is a phantom code but ill still recheck timing as soon as i get a chance

Never seen a phantom p0011. I'm sure it's an actual issue

thats what i thought, but at the same time john bradley said that sometimes you just need to disable the sensor check
