cammed lope

i recently installed Brian Crower 272s and i dont really notice much of a lope at idle. is this to be expected? or is the lope still in the works?

Its the cams. They are very mild and dont carry a big idle.

wrong.... its all in the tuning.

have you had the car tuned since installing the cams? you can mess with the timing and fuel and get them to lope. you can actually get the stock cams to lope a little by messing with the timing and fuel.

every setup and different brand/size cams will differ. target idle also plays a roll (forgot to add that) my old hks 272's will purr like stock with an idle set around 1k and an afr around 15 with timing around 38* (all of this in ecuflash). if i richen it up and get the afr down to around 14.2-14.5 and lower the target idle to around 850rpm and retard the timing a bit the cams stomp the ground and actually rock the car back and forth at redlights.

you will just have to play with these 3 things a bit to get the sound you like if thats what your after. be warned though messing with these things will make the car want to stall at idle with ac on.

heres a video of my car idling. my cams with the tune its on right now hits a harder lick than my buddies old talon with comp 280's in it.

yea car is not tuned with the cams yet. gotta patch up some exhaust leaks first. im not too worried about stalling with the A/C on, it did that before the cams lol. and thanks for the tuning info.

^this^ is spot on ! i have GSC S2s and they hit harder then my buddies HKS 280/272s and with proper tuning no threat of stalling with any accesories on.

here is a example https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ound-like.html of lope on stock cams he even goes so far as to pull the valve cover off because he and every one else thought he had cams.

My S1 cams lope like crazy. I have the 5* timing at idle. I did nothing special to encourage lope, just keep the stock timing and stock idle rpm setting.

im looking for a mild lope. so what would be an ideal timing value at idle? my idle is currently set at 850.

Is this correct? 38 degrees at idle?

How much advance can be run safely/without causing other issues at idle?

Damn I've had my car tuned multiple times (9 motor) and I've never heard even a slight lobe at idle...

I doubt he's running that much advance unless he idles at 3k rpm

As said, tuning can make the cams lope more or less. On my car, my Cossie M2's have no lope at 1k rpm, 12° timing and no MIVEC advance. But at 850rpm, 3-5° of timing and 6° of MIVEC advance, they start getting some lope. Also, leaner mixtures produce more lope, not richer. I have a switch in the car to change between 14.7 and 15.5 target AFR's for closed loop operation and there's more lope at 15.5.
