I'd definitely venture to say that it was a bad rod. How did the tops of the pistons look?

Local shop machined and I buttoned it up at home. About 15K miles so far and all leakdown tests are still good and consistent. This is with a GT35r and Meth/Water injection.

They were suppose to be Brian Crower. All I can find on the rod are these numbers 4-BR-033-08 and 09410.

Top of the piston is shine's like a new one. I haven't checked the rings yet.

I want to bring this thread back to life but ask a different question...what is the life span of a 2.3 stroker that is daily driven with maybe 1-2 track days each year? I hear the bearings go bad after about 5 years but no one can offer input.

if you plan to daily any car the bearings could go bad over five years... especially if you abuse it like we do our cars... with the less then optimal rod ratios as mentioned before our bearings do take a beating... but if you maintain it properly you really shouldnt have to worry... ideally you want something more like a long rod 2.0 or 2.2 motor... 2.4s really take a lot of finesse and massaging to get right and i have since turned against the previously hailed "perfect motor"...

It all depends on how you build it. A loose motor built to handle 1000whp and nitrous will not last as long as a tight motor built to handle 500whp.

7% leakdown is a new engine. Maybe your compression gauge is wacko.

There are people who have gotten some decent mileage out of their 2.3 setups.

If someone has concerns about bearings, WPC treatment is a cheap insurance policy.

^ I was reading your build thread Eric, looks really good, but I think you might even WPC the radio and seats while your at it.

I think I might have to look at your thread again for inspiration

I still have to WPC the main and rod bearings. We're using Cosworth shells, and they (along with OEM) have the advantage of having a plus 1 or minus one size if it calls for it.

Also, since having a talk with Aby about bearings, I wouldn't ever use King bearings (based upon his opinion, and how he explained things to me). Just food for thought.

I was sold on WPC after reading this on MotoIQ (especially since I am retaining the balance shafts, and some people have had bad luck with them...both balance shafts and BS bearings have been WPC'd).

^ I read Jacks Transmission recommendation on keeping the balance shafts and am sold on the idea. I think I would like to do a 2.0 LR with RC 1000 Wally, gsc s1, and hta 71 plus all the reg bolt ons, which is no where near your build but I feel should be fun. Just going back and forth on who to do the job.
