Hello guys,

I bought an 03 evo 8 with 124000 miles about a month ago. i noticed a strange and very random grinding noise coming from the front driver side of the car in the engine bay. like i said its very random. during daily driving in a 20 mile trip it would do it about 4 times. it does it while driving or stopped. it sounds like if something with teeth is trying to get into something that is spinning and when they meet it makes the grinding noise and stops. the car does not feel any different at all except for the scare. let me know what you guys think. thanks...

Grinding noises are usually bearings, driver's side would be in the tranny, which would make noise when moving and when stopped in neutral with the clutch engaged. If I had to guess I'd say input shaft bearing. Could be TOB but that would only be stationary with the clutch disengaged or during shifts.
