Anything you can do to make an Aftermarket Turbo Spool Faster?
I have an Evo 8 with a Tomei M7960 Turbo setup, My turbo does not wake up until 4k rpm and starts boosting max boost at around 5.5k. I was looking at the waste gate and it seems stock, its in silver but i dont really know if its the one that came with the M7960 kit or not. Are these turbos laggy when it comes to boosting? is this normal?

Well i bought car about 2 months ago, i am not so sure about mod details but here i go: Tomei M7960 Turbo, Aftermarket Intercooler, 2 step tune(not sure who tunned it), Cams,Intake, Full Exhaust with downpipe, Cam gears and a dualstage BOV. About 400WHP.

OP: How is boost being controlled on this slow spooling beast of yours anyway? What brand of BOV is on there? Do you feel game for attempting WGA adjustments to increase WG spring pressure(preload)? What cams are installed? Check the setting on the adjustable sprockets. What intake is on there?
What cams are in there? Do you happen to know?Early testing on this turbo revealed that it is very cam profile sensitive. For best spool characteristics smaller grinds are preferred such as S1's, HKS 264's, etc. the bigger cams such as the S2's, most 280's, the Kelford 272's and etc. help topend power production but have a negative impact on spool.
First though do what the others suggest and carry out a boost leak test.

I can see how nitrous injection would be useful in helping spool a high mass/high inertia turbo(s). In much the same way that you describe we used to inject meth early with a tiny jet size on turbo diesel applications when running anything larger than an HX-40 with a 16cm housing activating injection at about 10 PSI. This really improved the rate of spool and got the compressor into its sweet spot earlier. So, I can relate to what you are saying.
I am not really arguing with you. I know it will work. But, I think that maybe the OP would want to leave such an option for last. I would try tinkering with a bunch of other things first before going to chemical injection at relatively low engine speeds(2700-4000 RPM) and low turbo shaft speeds.
