Reminder everyone, check your engine bay grounds!

This is the 2nd car I've worked on recently that has had grounding issues. This was the worst of the two, burnt the ground from the cam sensor all the way back into the injector harness and just made a mess. While the ground was melting it fused about 3 or 4 other wires together to add to the fun.

Just wanted to remind eneryone to check your grounds, and make sure you have a solid clean connection on the engine and the tranny at a minimum.

Check engine light followed by some weird codes, mostly cam sensor related ect. Made me scratch my head a bit and its not my first go around with an evo

I hope thats not the only ground you are using? The next issue will be all of that current being fed to the sensors and only 1 outlet as a ground. Better put a heavy gauge wire to the trans and/or engine, as well as intake manifold.

ya this seems fairly common on modded evos for some reason, mine has melted 3 times and on the third time i got angry and tore the whole harness apart and separated that stupid ground so it wasnt touching anything lol

No sir I have 2 gauge wire going from the tranny to the body and 2 gauge wire on the back of the block to the body that little wire is only there to replace the oem one that ran to the valve cover my question is just why was it getting hot and only during cranking my batt is in the trunk and fuse box in the glove box I thought I had made a mistake some where.

This is a good read and I remember reading a little more about it in previous threads....

How many grounds are there on our evos and where exactly are they? This would help a lot of us out so we know where to look and check for good contact.

I wouldn't mind checking them out for good contacts this weekend (on my evo). I have an evo 8.

Thanks for posting!

it grounds the coil packs but i couldnt trace it back further than that, i still dont know why it shorts and melts because without fail it is showing signs of melting, but now i have it separated so i can keep an eye on it. But now i have a mild wire tuck so i guess something good came out of it melting
