I seemed to have misplaced my original thermostat so those pictures are of the one I just took out. I will be picking up my new replacement in the morning from the dealership and I imagine it will look identical to the one I pulled out. This will be my third thermostat and all of them are OEM parts for the record.

Thanks for the reply. Ill be picking up the new thermostat today and putting it in with the bleeder thingy positioned at the top aka 12 o'clock position.
The radiator has always been bled properly (front end in the air, radiator cap off, heat on , let the fan to turn on to cycle it through the heater core, top off) but Im sick of making a mess so im stopping at the parts store today as well to pick up a spill free funnel to make my life easier.
Hopefully the new thermostat fixes things. Im still a little skeptical because when this first happened the new thermostat didnt fix it, but maybe that one had a defect. I brought this up to the parts guy at Mitsubishi but he said unfortunately the parts arent warrantied unless they were installed by a professional.

I apologize for the delayed feedback. I havent tested the car cruising on the highway yet but so far I think the new thermostat has fixed it. The car seems to come up to temp much quicker than before. I am taking the car to New York on Friday so I will report back then as thatll be the true test.
In the meantime, thanks everyone for all of your help! The thermostat was the only thing in my mind that made sense but I didnt give it a second thought because I assumed the replacement part was fine.

One other thing to consider is that running on E-85 you almost have to run a very agressive ignition map to get it to stay warm. I had a high compression honda that I had to run more ignition and pull fuel to get it to stay warm. Just food for thought.

The new thermostat got things back to where they should be so the car is fixed. I'm glad you mentioned that though because it definitely crossed my mind when I started this thread hence why I mentioned it was running on E85 in the first post.
