I think 70c is normal for the factory add on guages. Thats where mine stays as well, although I've gotten it up to 80c with some vigorous driving. summer is around the corner tho'

so what is the best place to tap the sensor besides the drain plug?

there are two plugs right by the oil filter you can remove to put the sender in.

My oil temp reads between 55-70 degreesC on normal mixed driving here in So Cal area. When driven hard, goes up to 85-90 degrees C. I'm using the factory gauges from mitsu.

Here in Oklahoma on a hot day it usually goes 90C and with hard driving 100C.

I am about to switch to 5-40 oil from 10-30.

So where is the best place to put your oil temp. sensor?

My oil temp probe is at the filter (have an sandwhich adapter). My temps run between 90c (city) to 110c (mountain/high altitude driving). I live in So. Calif. by the way.

I've wondered about this question before.... never got a straight answer though.

i have mine at a port near the oil filter, it has never gone above 210* F. that is very good, even conventional oil doesnt break-down until 250* F or so from what ive read.

I've got mine on the oil pan. 200F on the street, 240F on the track.

OLD OLD OLD Thread , but I'm wondering if anyone knows what type ( thread and size) of sending unit I need to replace the oil pan drain plug for my oil temp gauge ?
