new high-Z injectors coming from FIC

I've been looking at my options for new injectors because my FIC1100s have been going static at peak whp. While I prefer a high-Z injector, I'm not willing to step up to the 2000/2150s because of the challenges in tuning and driveability with these injectors, so after looking around for some intermediate size high-Z injectors with no success, I finally settled on a set of low-Z FIC1450s. Apparently people like them quite well, so I'm going to give them a shot.

What I did find out in talking with FIC though is that they are apparently working on some new high-Z injectors to fill the gap between their 1100s and 2150s. Not sure why they hid it so well on their website, but if you look in their blog, some description is there. Looks promising for motors running E85 in the 500-650 whp range.

I drive my Evo in the winter, so all the new high-Z options are too far down the road. And now that I have a fuel pump that can keep up, I'm really psyched to slap on the HTA Green and try to make another 50 whp and 50 ft-lbs.

Top secret injector not yet released that will fill the gap between the 1000cc ID and the 2000cc ID injectors currently offered.

Super badass.

<-- mychailo went out and got the heaviest pintle he could find and bought and injector that used it

Lots of people running the BlueMax 1450 with success. I'll gladly run them over a set of the high-Z 2150s which IMHO are a nightmare for offboost tunability. The only time they make sense to me is for Evos making more than 600-650 whp on E85 where there aren't any other options left. (Or on Evo 10s where there is no choice but 1100 or 2150.) Will be great when more high-Z options are released to fill the gap.

Man, this is something new I have just read. I always thought everyone got great driveability on the fic2150s. I got some laying in my toolbox waiting to go in. My car is mainly a summer vehicle though. Hopefully I wont have any issues.

I thought fic had high z 1650s, but they were getting hot or something so they pulled them a few months ago. I know I have seen a set of high z 1650s from fic. I almost bought some, but my tuner said they were garbage.

The flow rate of the 1650s appear to be sensitive to injector temperature. The 2150s do not have that, but they just flow a lot of fuel, and their minimum pulse width is too high to be able to cleanly idle in closed loop. It can also be difficult to achieve clean closed loop response at very light cruise conditions. A mid-size 1300-1700 cc/min high-Z injector will be a good thing to have on the market.

I too also have hear that the new type of high impeadence 2000cc injectors by FIC and ID where the best Injectors in the world with lots of power pontichal and stock idle and drivability. Is that all bull ****?

I know the low z 1600cc injectors by FIC/rc/precisions run like crap.
I have also head the high z 1600cc FIC/ID are crap

I have the Id high z 1000cc injectors on my s2000 Nd they are great
I have the low z rc 1200cc injectors on my evo and they are also great.

low z injectors 1450cc will be huge step backwards in driveability.

injectors are flow matched and sold in groups to be well matched at 80-100% flow. they can be horribly matched at idle openings. the bigger the injector the bigger this problem is.

the new style "small pintle" injectors are matched at idle FAR better due to far superior design.

I get a momentary 3 point swing in my a/f with just 880cc injectors when a/c clicks on. small injector duty changes are hard to control with with big injectors. I have swapped in six different sets of injectors in my car till I found set that idles smooth and is well matched at low duty cycles.

this is one of the main reasons I run secondary injector setups on my cars. allows smaller primary injectors and factory like driveability.

Mychailo... the 1450s drive like *** compared to the 2150s... I had them in my car for less than 24 hours... Also my 2150s idle just fine in closed loop I can take a video if you would like...

Are my low z FIC 1050cc injectors the reason my car runs like crap when I first start it up? It gets pretty bad and dies a lot as soon as off the throttle when it starts getting really cold. It isn't that bad in the Summer though.

I had thought it was either the injectors or the 1 step colder spark plugs.

I get a lot of back firing when leaning into the throttle. I usually have to brute it into boost a little so that the car accelerates to the speed limit and take a round about way to the highway so that everything is warmed up by the on-ramp.

Guess I'll get to find out for myself on the 1450s because they arrived earlier this week. I did run the FIC1050 modified Delphi injectors for a few years, and their off-boost driveability was as good as my FIC1100s. Off boost tuning my buddy's Evo 10 with the 2150s was a mess. No way to get it to idle at anything leaner than 13:1, and cruise fuel trim was continually getting messed up due to bouncing off the minimum pulse width. Maybe the Evo 8/9 ECU is better, but a buddy in town also has 2150s on a 2.3L 4G64, and its set by English Racing to idle in open loop. Idles at around 13:1 as well.
