Seems interesting. Fram web page says 99+% efficiency at 20 microns, which would be good. "Rigid" metal screen behind the pleats to keep them separated. Other good features.
Is this Ultra model new recently, like in the last year or so? I see they have 4 models of oil filter now. What I think I remember from a few years ago was only 3 models. But I don't remember which 3 they were.

That does seem kind of sloppy. Especially when their graphic for the relief valve says "precision coil spring" Haha. I couldn't find that spec though - where did you find it?
I noticed in their pdf for Racing Filters that they give a spec for the "Safety Valve" of 22psi. Period, no range. I don't know why they call it a safety valve either, maybe it is a little different than a relief valve.

Never knew royal purple made oil filter. Very useful info, now every evo owner won't be able to settle for a "lesser" oil filter even if difference is microscopical.

I think google somewhere... idk. hard to find, feels like everyone hides their data about this stuff.

I'm testing Amsoil, the Pureone, & Fram Ultra this year - trying to get a similar amount of runs & miles on each. This will probably only be specific to my evo, my driving, etc. though - if the results show any significance at all to begin with

Great thread !!!

Over here, there are two highly appreciated oil filters for Mitsubishi Evo the JDM Pitwork and the HKS Hybrid Sports. Some say Pitwork makes both of them.

http://www.hks-power.co.jp/en/produc...ter/index.html

Do you have them in the US ? Any opinions ?

AMSOil filter

Question for those using the AMSOil filter. I recently switched away from it due to the new design causing an oil leak from the filter seal closest to the engine. Has anyone else run into this issue or is it just my ill luck. If I loosen the filter and retighten it the leak would stop for a short while. Usually after some 'spirited' driving the leak would reappear. Comparing an older 15k20 to the new one, the seal ring was different. Slightly wider from what I could tell. Replaced it with a Bosch and the leak is gone.

haven't had the issue. did you 'wet' the ring with old oil before putting it on?

Always, I actually use some of the new oil to lube the ring. I've used several AMSOil filters and never had the issue. The ring on this one was different though.

FRAM X2, XG, Ultra (whatever they call it this year) is the only filter I've used on my in the 150k I've owned it. Use it in the Forester XT as well

Interested to see your testing on it

Among the best research articles I have ever seen. My compliments. Now, I first used Fram on my Corolla with Mobil1 5W30 and @ 3,000 miles my oil began to turn dark. Bought a Mobil1 filter, changed oil, with Mobil1 again and @7,500 miles, my oil was as clear amber as the day it was put in.

Which "model" of Fram filter was that?

Thanks for this thread. Awesome work. I just picked up 2 cases of the Amsoil filters with my dealer account.

I was using OEM before! I was one of those people who thought OEM was the best.
