pulling head help?

Ok i have replaced my clutch in december and now i blew the head gasket, anyways my question is, im leaving the intake manifold on and removing exhaust manifold from head, i already have everything disconnected, all i need to do is pull the head bolts and the timing belt,

my question is, my camshaft timing marks are lined up and piston is tdc, how do i remove the tension from the belt to get the belt off? please and thank you

You would need a timing belt tensioner tool.
Here's a great tool kit from jay racing http://www.jayracing.com/index.php?m...roducts_id=214
Also, don't forget that there is a bolt for the alternator bracket you have to remove.

Screw that! Take the front case off. Four bolts on the crank pulley, 4 on the water pump. 8-10 on the case itself. Then pop the tensioner bolt loose.

Or buy a 18" rod threaded m8x1.25. Either work quite well and are far cheaper then the tool
Also you dont need to pull the exh mani. The intake has two bracket bolts underneathe, the waterpipe has a 10mm bolt in the head unless i'm thinking mivec line... Idk but you'll figure it out.

Removing the lower timing cover is unnecessary. Just purchase or make a timing belt tensioner tool. and don't forget to zip tie the belt to the cam gears.

my favorite way was the way David buschur did it on his shortblock teardown video. He just used his air ratchet to zip off the tensioner while it was still on. That's the flat rate way, lol. I think you would then need to use a vise to compress the tensioner again, if you were gonna reuse it.

2:51-3:00 is what Im talking about. I think he just zipped it off without any special tools.

I'm placed an order for the tensioner tool. I'm not positive where I run it on the tensioner. Anybody have a picture?

Removing it is unnecessary eh? He just admitted to not knowing how to use the tensioner tool and you have complete faith and confidence that he will support the belt well enough to not jump timing...

Good luck.
