Walbro 400 lph failed

My walbro 400lph failed today... it still pump some fuel but very little/weak. Car will not start. I ran E50 fuel and 50psi base pressure.

Anyone else had 400 lph pump fail?

Everyone who has ran ethanol thru it...

Ethanol reacts with the negative carbon brush that energizes the pump.

yep. Mine failed as well. I put the ethanol friendly ones in the tank and haven't had a problem since.

The Walbro 416 is *basically* the same pump but e85 compatible.

No such thing as a ethanol friendly one... Carbon brushes being carbon and all... I'm a little hazy on the physics its been a year since mine failed. But a negitively charged carbon atom is attached to the ionized ethanol molecule and slowly errodes the brushes based on useage. One pump lasted me 3 months and the other 9 days.

Its actually quite different i. Size dimention and flow volume... So no its completely different and is sealed so that it never touches the ethanol making it compatible

There you have it folks. There is no rebuild bushing/kit for the 400. Get the 416 if you want to pump Ethanol.

Ya don't try running ethanol with the 400, we had two fail in less then 1000 miles each. The e85 pumps have no issues.

I fully agree with using the E85 pump for E85, but I did actually go almost a year (5000-7000 miles) on the non-E85 pump running 82% ethanol. It hadn't failed when I removed it, but flow rate had dropped somewhat from when it was new.
