re any air box mods recommended for a car with SD and 400hp ATW? , keeping in mind I'd like to keep the stock look?
I have a high flow filter already, but I am prepared to cut the stock box and run a pod filter if needed for more gains.
Any advice is appreciated.

I saw an awesome guide on how to do that here, but does anyone know if it is in my best interest to do this mod with the power figure I'm chasing?
Considering the extra noise etc.

I would be concerned with an increase in inlet temps if it was on pump gas. I remember reading somewhere that is was a 20 degree difference between lid on and lid off. I'm curious if that 20degrees turns into much more when compressed and is more of an amplified effect. Presuming stock I/C and turbo. Now if you are on a bigger turbo or E85 it doesn't matter as much.
I also remember reading( Robert at FP ) that past 350whp its recommended to go with an open filter to reduce the restriction before the turbo and prevent damage.
Without logging it on a dyno before and after with the hood closed we might not have a straight answer. I prefer the stock airbox and less noise as well.
Now, if the ACD pump wasn't such a PITA to move then the filter would be in the fenderwell in a heartbeat.

Abacus, if you modify the box correct and it is not a restriction. When you cut it away you are allowing the intake to pull in a lot more air than what just comes through the snorkel. In my datalogs the temperature does not rise during pulls with my setup. On a similarly modified car with FP Red the intake temps rise during pulls and he does not have the airbox in place.

My Evo came with an Injen intake. I was much happier without the intake noise once I went back to the stock airbox. I wouldn't have guessed guys are running sd with it, I'll have to check into that now. I was initially just looking into wether it's worth replacing the stock intake tube. I've already paid tscomp, but it seems like I keep finding more and more stuff I want to do before the tune!

As your looking at the pic up top, on the rt side by the fender, the lids rt side. Cut this side out, its triangular shaped and is above the filter, leave the lid rim on it so it still clamps down. This will help pull in cooler air from the fender side and is a very quick mod. Been running like that for yrs now.
