What would happen if you put a BOV in backwards?

I know for a fact that Ralliart in Europe turn the stock recirculation BOV around on their Grp.N rally cars. I think it's to prevent it from leaking and since you aren't allowed to change such parts on Grp.N homologated cars they can't put in an aftermarket item. I know several street EVO's that has the BOV that way as well. No idea how it effects the function though.
