Go 5 speed or build 6 speed for my evo 9 MR??
I've searched and could use a bit more opinions so please don't bash this thread!
Should I swap to a 5 speed? Or should I pull my 6 speed and send that to get built? Really like the 6 speed and don't wanna take away from that but don't want it in pieces either..
I appreciate any opinions in advance and other 6 speed owners' thought about this!
Thanks!

Has a lot to do with the driver man. How many miles on your 6 speed? Are you the original owner? Do you jam it into gear at high RPM? Grind gears? Good condition 6 speeds with good drivers should be fine at 450 whp. All transmissions will eventually turn to **** with a bad driver, even if the car is stock.

Shep Ultimate Ratio 5-spd. /thread.
The ratio's are perfect and far better than the stock 5-spd while not having the fragility of the 6-spd. I've run all three transmissions with various power levels and the ultimate ratio is head and shoulders over the other options.

I have 355awhp and 335tq and my 6 speed started grinding. I just do hwy pulls like you and 3rd started grinding. Still went in fine and never locked me out for over a year but just go to the point where it was very annoying so i bought a built 5 speed. I do miss the smoothness of the 6 speed but i do like no grinds and less shifting. I would say save money for a swap but dont do it until you start grinding or really have to.

380/360 on E85 w/ stock turbo.
Dont really go above redline,
shift at about 5 grand usually.
I recommend only make hard pulls in
3rd or 4th.
No issues.
Take care of her
and she'll take care of you.

i used to race my car at the strip regularly.... ran a 12.0 on street tires with my 6spd... developed and ran a short throw shifter that made it 2.5in throw down from 4. i routinely put the car up to 160mph on the 60 mile drive to my daughters house. ON DESOLATE DESERT ROADS... even made runs over the two 7 and 10 mile mountain passes we have in the area at speed over 120... and 150 when i was running against my friends bikes. if i had to put a number on it i would say 150 passes at the track, 100-125 passes at 150+, and easily 50 passes over the mountains at speeds over 120...
all that beating... and all the abuse a short throw can put on the system... and my 41k miles on my 6spd never did it a bit of harm.
all the hype about the 6spd being a glass box in my opinion is failures due to abuse and not it being weak in itself... i wont say it will hold up to 600tq... show me a transmission that can happily without an issue... but i will bet if you treat it right, use the right fluids, and drive like you should then it will be fine at reasonable power levels...
